About Richard

Richard has spent his career in secondary education, holding senior leadership roles including Headteacher, Director of Humanities, Head of English and Head of Year across leading secondary schools. He has now moved into tutoring full time, allowing him to focus entirely on the one-to-one relationships that make the biggest difference to a child's progress. Alongside his one-to-one work, he also runs one of our most successful group classes, with a strong track record of proven results.

Qualifications and experience

• PGCE, MA in Education, NPQSL and CELTA, plus a BA Combined Honours degree
• Previously Headteacher, Director of Humanities, Head of English and Head of Year
• Lead examiner for AQA GCSE English Literature
• Enhanced DBS (date shown to parents on request)

How Richard teaches

Lessons are built around a clear learning journey, often guided by a key question explored and answered across the session. Using a Connect, Activate, Demonstrate and Consolidate approach, Richard helps students build knowledge, apply it, and retain it with confidence, adapting to each student's pace and needs. He combines academic rigour with a genuinely supportive environment, so students feel confident to share ideas and develop their own interpretations, leading to stronger writing and better exam performance.
