What protects your child in every Bright Berry lesson, how to raise a concern, and the rules every tutor must follow.
Version 2.1 — effective 11 September 2026. This page has three parts: what we do to keep your child safe, how to raise a concern, and the rules every Bright Berry tutor must follow.
At Bright Berry Education, safeguarding is our top priority. We are committed to creating a safe, secure and supportive environment for every Student, tutor and member of our team, and to a culture of vigilance where every concern — however small it seems — is raised and looked at.
Every tutor holds an enhanced DBS check (with children's barred-list check) which we verify ourselves before they teach, provides two references and proof of identity and qualifications, and completes safeguarding training before their first lesson and at least annually thereafter. We will tell you the date of your tutor's DBS check on request.
Please make sure a parent or carer is at home or contactable during lessons; that lessons take place in a suitable shared space where possible (not a bedroom where it can be avoided); that the Student knows they can tell you or the DSL about anything that worries them; and that you tell us about any change in circumstances that may affect the Student's wellbeing.
If a tutor or the DSL becomes concerned about a Student's safety or welfare we follow our safeguarding procedure in line with the statutory guidance Working Together to Safeguard Children and Keeping Children Safe in Education. That may mean speaking to you, and it may mean making a referral to the Student's local authority children's services or the police. We will normally discuss a concern with you first, unless doing so could place the Student at greater risk.
All online lessons provided through Bright Berry Education are recorded. Recordings are stored securely and may be reviewed by the Designated Safeguarding Lead to ensure safeguarding standards are upheld. Recordings protect both Students and tutors, ensuring transparency and accountability. Tutors must not make their own separate recordings of lessons.
If a tutor has any safeguarding concern about a Student — a disclosure, signs of abuse or neglect, or concern about mental health or online safety — they must report it to the Designated Safeguarding Lead the same day and in any event within 24 hours, and make a brief written note of what was seen or said, in the Student's own words where possible. Tutors must not investigate, promise confidentiality to a Student, or contact the family about the concern themselves. If a child is in immediate danger the tutor must call 999 first and then inform the DSL.
All tutors must hold a current enhanced DBS check with children's barred-list check (or the equivalent for their country of residence if teaching from abroad, together with a UK check where eligible) and must tell us immediately of any caution, conviction or investigation arising after their check. Tutors must follow the principles of Keeping Children Safe in Education and Working Together to Safeguard Children, and our communication rules: Bright Berry email only, no personal contact details, no social media contact, no direct contact with Students outside lessons.
Tutors must maintain a professional and confidential approach at all times. Information about Students may be used only for educational purposes and must not be shared outside Bright Berry Education, except where required for safeguarding. Tutors must be appropriately dressed, teach from a suitable professional setting, keep their camera on, and never teach under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
All tutors must complete safeguarding training (child protection, online safety, recognising and responding to disclosures) before their first Bright Berry lesson and refresh it at least annually. Bright Berry provides or recommends the training and keeps a record of completion.
This policy is reviewed at least annually, and sooner if statutory guidance changes. All tutors are informed of updates and expected to comply. Breach of this policy may result in immediate termination of a tutor's engagement.
